How to Send a Wedding Invitation on WhatsApp – Tips and Message Samples
Updated October 25, 2026 · 4 min read
Most Telugu families now share the wedding invitation on WhatsApp – relatives in other towns and abroad get it the same day. A little care makes it feel as respectful as a card handed over in person. Here's how to send it, with messages you can copy.
1. Choose what to send: a video or a picture of the card
A short video invitation with your names, photos and music stands out in a busy chat and plays right inside WhatsApp. A photo of the printed card works too, but small text is hard to read on a phone. Many families send both: the video for everyone, and the card for elders who like to read every detail.
2. Pick the right size
- Landscape (16:9) – fills the screen when the phone is turned sideways, and suits TV and YouTube.
- Portrait / mobile (9:16) – fills the screen of a phone held upright, and is the right shape for WhatsApp Status and Instagram reels.
- HD 720p is plenty for phones and keeps the file small, so it downloads quickly for everyone. Full HD 1080p looks best on laptops and TVs.
3. Send it personally, with a message
Forwarding a video without a word can feel cold. Send it in a personal chat with a short message, and use the person's name where you can. Replace the words in [brackets]:
Namaskaram [Name] garu 🙏

Guests coming from other towns will thank you for it. Open the venue in Google Maps, tap Share and paste the link under your message – or in WhatsApp tap the attachment button (📎) → Location and choose the hall.
5. Groups, broadcast lists and Status
- Family groups – fine for cousins and friends, but send elders a personal message as well.
- Broadcast lists – one message goes to many people, and each person gets it as a personal chat. It only reaches people who have saved your number in their contacts.
- Status – post the portrait (mobile) video on your Status. It stays for 24 hours, so post it again as the wedding comes closer.
6. When to send it
- 3–4 weeks before the wedding for most guests.
- 5–6 weeks before for relatives travelling from far away or from abroad, so they can book tickets.
- A reminder 2–3 days before, with the venue location and the muhurtham time.
- After the wedding, a thank-you message with a photo is always welcome.

We look forward to seeing you.7. Keep the traditions that matter
WhatsApp doesn't replace everything. Many families still offer the first invitation to God at the temple, and visit close elders at home to invite them in person with బొట్టు (kumkum). Send the video to everyone – and keep the personal visit for the people who matter most. Need the words for the card? See our pelli patrika wording samples.
